    The Course

The 18-hole semi-moorland course is 6,063 yards, and contains some classic holes, including three that feature Alister Mackenzie's signature two-tier greens.

    Moorland

The course contains diversified natural features and undulating contours; no two holes are alike, nor are there many which lie in the same direction, providing a varied and fair testing round.

    Steeped In History

Formed in 1890, and originally sited at Redvales, Bury. 1920 saw the club commission golf course architects Colt, Mackenzie and Alison to design a new 18-hole course at its current location of Blackford Bridge.

    Dr Alister Mackenzie

Bury Golf Course was designed by Alister MacKenzie, Charles Hugh Alison, and Harry Shapland Colt.

Mackenzie was a firm believer that golf courses should blend harmoniously with the natural landscape, rather than being imposed on it. His approach to designing Bury Golf Course was no different.

    Open Championship Ties

The great Harry Vardon, 6-times winner of the Open Championship, was golf professional at Bury Golf Club from 1902. Vardon left an indelible mark on the culture of the club - the main function room is named after him, and an annual open competition is played in his honour.
